Yesterday was by FAR my WORST day so far at California Strength. Fridays are almost like mock meets. The morning session is lighter than any other one in the week, just prepping us for the afternoon session. The afternoon session is always the most intense, and people usually hit the biggest #’s. I couldn’t snatch 130kg for the life of me…(For all of you with a good memory- I POWER snatched this earlier in the week. What the heck?). And I don’t even want to talk about my cleans.
I was pretty bummed out yesterday after the session, but got settled down as the night went on and finally started relaxing. I came in today really stiff and sore. I worked up to a 130kg snatch (286lbs), but missed it 3x before. I dropped back down to 110kg for probably 10 singles. I had just lost that feel for the movement. FINALLY- I felt it again. I got the rhythm back and started really snatching. Thank god. I hadn’t had that feeling all week, but finally got it back today. It’s a positive step moving forward to next week. Then I clean and jerked up to 150kg (330lbs) to end the workout. I’M BACK!! Finally.
I got some really good technique advice from Steve Gough and Mike Karchut (coaches out of Montana). Karchut was a former lifter himself winning like 10 national titles (or close to it), and Steve coached his son who STILL holds every American Record in my weight class. I really expect to have a huge week next week. Thanks for the advice guys!!
Now- it’s time to watch the Iowa State Wrestling Finals. Best night of TV (even better than the super bowl).
